Wien family photographs, ca. 1895-1955 (bulk 1895-1900).

Summary: Photograph of family and friends, mostly taken about 1900 with a few images from the 1950s. Includes the popular series of "cowboy golfer" images of Jesse Wien and Ed Smith playing golf in the desert at Russelville, Arizona. There are also images of family taken by a traveling photographer for the Atlantic & Pacific View & Portrait Company including one of the family with their musical instruments. There are Buehman Studio photographs of Gertrude Wien: one upon her graduation from St. Joseph's Academy, one reading, and one with horses and a bicycle in the desert. There are images of the Wien ranch home in Russelville, a Kolb Brothers photograph of Theresa Wien at the Grand Canyon in 1915, and the Wilburn Adams family with covered wagon and horses, and a picnic in Texas Canyon about 1900. There are also images of their Chinese servant "Charley"; the Dragoon storekeeper, Thomas Clemmons; and Russellville and Dos Cabezas teacher, Nora Heath.

Biographical note: Amos Hafer Wien, soldier and miner, served at Fort Lowell, Fort Grant, and Fort Bowie. In 1887 he invested in the Black Prince Mine and other mines near Johnson, Arizona. In 1891 he moved to Russelville, then Los Angeles, then to Tucson in 1906 and later again lived at Johnson and operated a general store.
